Establishing A Joy Routine
To Live A Life You Love
The other day, I was thinking about the importance of routines. I’d been speaking with a young mother and shared how we changed our mealtime routine when our kids got busy with sports and after-school activities.
It was getting harder and harder to sit down as a family for dinner at the time, but we didn’t want to lose that routine of spending time together every day. Since dinner together wasn’t always an option, we decided to eat breakfast together daily. Not just a little cereal, toast, or a pop-tart, but a full meal. Fresh fruit was always in the mix, and we’d rotate through an assortment of breakfast foods—cooking eggs, sausage, biscuits, pancakes, quiche, and eggs benedict.
That time together was so precious, and the extra effort was totally worth it. We still talk about those breakfasts—our great conversations and fun memories.
Now that I’m in my second half of life and the kids have moved out, I’m making new routines that hold meaning.
